Headman seeks Govt intervention

Seeking the intervention of the Govt in the inter-village feud, James Kasar the Headman of Chadong village said the rivalry could snowball to greater height of tension if the Government authority fails to control the situation.
Addressing media persons today at the Manipur Press Club, headman of Chadong village, James Kasar said never in the history of the village did such kind of unwanted incident occurred like the one witnessed in recent days.
He said both the warring parties continue to flex muscles against each other.
He however said that tension has subsided a bit after the SDO of Phungyar, SDPO of Ukhrul, and OC of Litan PS informed the two parties about a meeting of the two parties with their mediation on May 14 .
James conveyed his worry that tension would escalate at greater height if the proposed meeting fails to bring amicable solution.
He recalled that a village authority member, Job Kasar was badly assaulted by around 11 villagers led by Horam Kashung and Ningreiyo Kashung in the night of May 8 .
Apart from assaulting Job, two of his daughters were taken captive by the assailants.
Though the two girls have been released, Job is hospitalised in a critical condition.
The same assailants had also dismantled the houses of James Kasar and Ashang, who is also the finance secretary of Mapithel Dam Multi-Purpose Project Displaced Villages Committee in the morning of May 9, he said.
Property and cash worth Rs 15 lakh including Rs 2 lakh MGNREGS fund of the village and gold jewellery were damaged in the attack, he alleged.
Speaking at the occasion, finance secretary of MDMPDVC Ashang suspected the tension could have erupted when politically motivated individuals instigated the villagers to raise against the authority.
He alleged that some anti-dam activists instigated the villagers.
