Imphal, February 06, 2012:
If any cadres of NSCN-IM, which is under the Cease Fire agreement with the Government of India, are found violating the ground rules, they will be arrested, arms seized and punished according to the law of the land, Lt Gen Rameshwar, Director General of Assam Rifles (DGAR) has warned.
Speaking at the sidelines of his visit to Sainik School, Pangei, Lt Gen Rameshwar said that all the cadres of NSCN-IM should abide by the Cease Fire ground rules.
If any of the cadres were found violating the ground rules, they will be seriously dealt with.
So it will be a wise decision on their part to always follow the ground rules.
He further stated that in a democratic country like India, no power is more powerful than the power given by the ballot paper.
If one claims that he is powerful, let him come out and fight the election and be a leader of the people instead of resorting to all sorts of violence.
He also expressed regret over the violent incidents which occurred during the recently held election both in the hills and the plains where a number of innocent persons were killed.
He said that such unfortunate incidents clearly point out that the UG groups have not come up with the purpose of serving the people of the state.
They are against the people of the state as they have resorted to killing and torturing the innocent.
He also pointed out that in the areas of Manipur where AFSPA is in force, the AR and the Indian Army find it easy to control the UG outfits compared to those area where the Act is not enforced.
There is 40% reservation for the people of the North East for recruitment in the Assam Rifles.
20% for being an insurgency area while the remaining 20% for being border area.
But the number of people from the North East joining Assam Rifles is only 32%.There is still 8% vacancy for the North East people in the Assam Rifles.
For those people having interest in pre-recruitment training in Assam Rifles, they can avail the benefit at any of the AR camps in the state or elsewhere, he added.
Director General of Assam Rifles (DGAR) Lt Gen Rameshwar Roy arrived in Imphal earlier today on a two-day visit to the state.
