Yatra spreads message on pharmaceutical trade

Spreading the messages of ethical and responsible pharmaceutical practices, the India Pharmacists Revolution campaign launched on January 4 from Jantar Mantar, New Delhi reached here today.
Interacting with newspersons at Manipur Press Club today, convenor of campaign organiser - India Pharma Revolution Udyog Development Foundation - Amitav Joyprakash Choudhury conveyed that the nationwide Yatra (march) aims at promoting ethical trading by pharmacists considering the fact that human lives depend on their profession.
Listing Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Tripura and Mizoram as the States covered by the Yatra before its arrival here today, he informed that Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh would be the next destinations of the campaign.
Along with spreading the message of ethical trading, the Yatra is also highlighting the demands for a separate Ministry of Pharmaceuticals, formation of Indian Pharmaceutical Services, immediate implementation of the Food Safety and standards Act 2-11, amendment in Drugs and Cosmetics Rules 1945, pharmacists in clinical role and drug administration, Amitav explained.
With regard to Manipur, he drew the attention of the State authorities on the need to suspend/annul trade license of drug stores not conforming to prescribed norms of Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, initiate action against retail shops running without pharmacists, ensure sale of Schedule-H drugs by only registered license holders, set up drug testing laboratory at the earliest, implement Food and Drug Administration mechanism, form Manipur Pharmacy Council for effective implementation of Pharmacy Act, include Pharmacy Education in Government (polytechnic) institutions, set up centres for drug information and pharmaco-vigilance at every hospitals and to fill up vacant post of pharmacists in Government undertaking.
