Imphal, January 04 2013 :
BJP State unit president Th Chaoba has questioned silence and inaction of the ruling Congress party on the decision of the all-party meeting to send an all-party delegation and apprise the Centre about the situation resulting from the Chandel outrage and subsequent killing of a joumalist in police firing.
Speaking to media persons at his office today, Chaoba stated that Manipur is literally burning following repeated incidents of rape and molest and all kinds of violence against women.
Observing that a fast track Court has been set up in connection with the Delhi rape case so that the case can be dealt with satisfactorily andjustice delivered without much delay, Chaoba decried that the Government is still unable to pull up NSCN-IM's Livingstone, the prime accused of the Chandel outrage.
State forces could have apprehended Livingstone on the day of the incident but they did not.
The State Government then went quiet after announcing a cash reward of Rs five lakhs over the head of Livingstone.
Chaoba also decried that a journalist who was on duty was killed in police firing.
In the face of the strong and massive agitation, the Government convened an all-party meeting.
The meeting which was attended by representatives of around 15 different political parties, after minute discussion on the unfolding situation of Manipur, agreed to send an all-party delegation to New Delhi and apprise the Centre about the issue.
However, even after 10 days since the meeting was held, the ruling Congress party is maintaining a complete silence over the collective decision to an all-party delegation to the Centre.
Stating that the Congress did not send any of its representatives to the meeting convened by opposition parties, Chaoba questioned the motive and reasons of the Congress party's inaction on the issue.
Together with pulling up Livingstone at the earliest, a fast track Court should be set up in the State to deal with criminal cases and violence against women, Chaoba demanded.
Former MLAs Salam Ibohal and M Bhorot were also present at the press meet.
