Imphal, March 02 2012:
Candidates with BEd credentials who could not make the cut as primary teachers under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) have reportedly petitioned the Gauhati High Court besides forming a JAC to initiate further course of action.
Speaking to news-persons at Manipur Press Club today, one Moirangthem Tombi, who said he is secretary of recently formed JAC of Unsuccessful BEd and DIET Qualified Candidates of Lower Primary Upper Primary SSA pointed out that Principal Secretary (Education) Dr J Suresh Babu had on December 11, 2011 issued a 'mark list' of candidates who have been shortlisted to appear at the test for recruitment of SSA lower primary and upper primary teachers.
A total of 1825 candidates had applied for the said posts out of which 1104 were for the post of lower primary teacher, said Tombi adding that the total vacancy was 2623 .
Explaining that compared to the total seats and number of candidates who applied for the posts, there is still vacancy of 798 seats, he expressed surprise on what criteria were many candidates who completed BEd or DIET course failed to make the selection list.
The JAC secretary also claimed that notification issued by the Principal Secretary (Dr J Suresh Babu) had clearly mentioned that selection priority would be for candidates with BEd/DIET certificates along with success at the TET test while the remaining posts would be filled based on the marks secured by the respective candidates.
The Gazette notification also indicated that candidates with two years diploma course, one year BEd along with success in TET would be given priority, he contended while expressing suspicion that the recruitment procedures might not have been conducted in a fair manner for a number of BEd, DIET or TET passed candidates have been left out inspite of the vacant seats.
Tombi said in connection with the issue the JAC has filed a case at Gauhati High Court today against the SSA Project Director and its Principal Secretary.
