Villagers urge for speedy road construction

Villagers of Taosang at Nungba Sub-Division under Tamenglong district have urged the PWD Manipur to construct road and complete the bridge construction soon.
A press release of the Chairman, Taosang Village Authority said, a joint venture agreement between NHPC, India and State Govt was made for the construction of the Loktak Downstream Hydroelectric Power Project (LDHEP), NHPC Ltd at Taosang Village.
Division of work portion has been cleared as construction of roads and bridges are to be maintained by the PWD and construction of the said LDHEP by the Loktak Downstream Hy droelectric Corp Ltd (LDHCL), NHPC, it stated.
So far some changes of road construction work could be seen from Tupul to Thangal upto Leimatak River.
It seems the work progress is very slow not much improvement in the part of PWD Manipur, the release observed and added that iron materials for the bridge have been kept at Thangal in open space.
It has been almost six months without any sign of work initiation for the construction of bridge by the PWD.
It continued that presently the start of work by LDHCL, NHPC has kept pending due to improper road and bridges and NHPC department now and then pressured the State Govt to go forward with the work speedily so that it can start their work soon and complete the project in time bound manners.
A memorandum had been submitted to the concerned officials regarding speedy work, timely payment of compensation, contract work of road construction or any works, jobs, any benefits and development to be given main priority to the villagers, on the foundation stone laying day for the bridge, the release maintained and urged for speedy work as the construction of LDHEP, NHPC Ltd helps in the socio-economic development of the State.
