Imphal, January 29 2017:
The Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) has threatened to boycott the Congress and BJP party in the ensuing State Assembly election if either take up measures to lift the ongoing economic blockade on National Highways imposed by the UNC.
In a press conference held at MMWO office today, the organisation president Korimayum Boby said the UNC's economic blockade has completed three months now.
Indifferent to the hardships caused by the same to the people, the ruling Congress and the BJP are engrossed in their own political blame games.
If the BJP and the Congress party continue to neglect the issue, they will be inviting strong fury from the people, the MMWO president warned.
The BJP and the Congress should join together to resolve the ongoing economic blockade.
"If neither takes the initiative to end the economic blockade, minority Muslims in different parts of the State will boycott both the parties", Boby stated.
Counter blockades staged at different valley areas by the people against the UNC's economic blockade had only increased the gap between the hill and the valley people.
The Congress and the BJP who is holding power in the State and the Centre respectively, should act responsibly and resolve the ongoing economic blockade and also the communal hatred that has followed, Boby said.
The MMWO president has also strongly condemned the deployment of paramilitary forces in the State.
The move, he opined, was targeted to suppress and not resolve, the economic blockade.
He further urged both State and the Central Government to hold a dialogue with the UNC leaders and sort out the issue amicably.
He has further appealed to all the organisations/groups in the State not to use economic blockade as a means to acquire their demands, whatever they be.
