Drug haul: DESAM takes strong stand

Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has warned that it will not remain as a silent spectator if the State Government fails to take up necessary action in connection with the seizure of a huge quantity of drugs from the Lamphel quarter of Chandel ADC Chairman on June 20 and brush it under the carpet.
A press release issued by the secretary (special task force and anti drugs abuse) DESAM, stated that there have been many instances of high ranking individuals being involved in drugs trade and mentioned the case of seizure of a large amount of drugs from Imphal International Airport on January 11, 2013, seizure of more than Rs 25 crore worth of drugs from an Army PRO and the recent case of the involvement of a retired DSP of police in the seizure of a large quantity of WY tablets on April 24 this year.
DESAM mentioned that any information regarding all of these cases as well as many others have been lost to the people till date and warned that if the State Government and the authority concerned fails to take up any actions regarding the seizure of a huge quantity of drugs from the quarters of the ADC Chandel Chairman, the association will not remain mum and take up intense form of agitation with the support of the people.
