Ukhrul, January 28 2017:
The Ukhrul District Taxi Welfare Association (UDTWA) has spoken strongly against taxi organization UDLVOA/ UTS.
The association, UDTWA said, is attempting to usurp UDTWA by creating crisis between taxi operators in the district.
In a press conference held at UDWJA office at Viewland today, UDTWA president Kathing said UDTWA was formed with a view to provide taxi (winger) services to the people in the district.
The association got registered at the District Co-operative Department in 2009 as a legal taxi welfare association.
In 2013, Ukhrul District Light Vehicle Owners Association (UDLVOA/ UTS), an unregistered taxi association, sought amalgamation with UDTWA.
The request was accepted but later, the managing committee of UDLVOA/ UTS was found involved in fund misappropriation and embezzlement making it impossible for UDTWA to extend the merger, Kathing said.
The Deputy Registrar of Societies, Ukhrul, cancelled the amalgamation of UDLVOA/UTS through an order dated December 30, 2016 .
As such, UDTWA will initiate strict legal action against any vehicle found using the name or registration number of UDTWA, he stated.
