Bishnupur, December 27 2017:
The short circuiting of a 25 KV transformer, located at Kumbi Terakhong Awang Leikai, has stopped the electricity supply in the area for almost a month.
This was noted by the locals during a press met held at Kumbi Terakhong Khongnangmakhong market shed today.
The transformer which supplied electricity to around 30 consumers, was disconnected by the Department concerned on December 5, when it was found that 20 consumers were misusing the connection.
After a fine of around Rs 10,000 was collected (Rs 1000 each from the consumers), the Department resumed the electric supply for the said consumers.
However, the transformer (after supplying electricity for around half an hour), short circuited and has remained defunct till date.
The locals addressed the issue to the Department but were asked to pay a fee of Rs 35,000 for repairing.
Meanwhile, when the locals appealed the Department to repair another tansformer which has been lying non-functional for a long time, they were told that the repairing would cost around Rs 22,000 and they were also instructed to share the cost of repairing.
As the locals were unable to contribute the money for the repair, the consumers have been facing blackouts for almost a month.
Speaking at the press meet, one of the consumers Heikham Prem, explained the hardships faced by the people, especially the students who are appearing the HSLC examinations.
The blackouts have caused immense inconveniences in carrying out daily chores and household works, he added.
The consumers, considering the grievances of the locals, urged the authority concerned to look into the matter and supply regular electricity before January 5, 2018 .
The consumers will be compelled to launch intense agitation if the authority concerned fails to meet the demand.
Terakhong Meira Paibi Lup secretary Th Radhe Devi said that the Lup will extend maximum support to the agitation and urged the State Government to intervene at the earliest.
Local clubs, Meira Paibi and the public were present in the press meet.
