71st death anniversary of Hijam Irabot observed widely

Befitting tribute was paid to Hijam Irabot Singh on his 71st death anniversary which was observed widely in the State today .

Leishangthem Thoiren, CPI secretary has highlighted the need for the younger generation to imbibe the principles of Hijam Irabot.
The CPI secretary was speaking at the observance of '71st death anniversary of Hijam Irabot: State Mourn Day' organised by Irawat Celebration Committee, Manipur at Irawat Bhawan, BT Road today.
As a part of the function, CPI state executive members paid a floral tribute on the bust of Hijam Irabot erected here at the complex.
Speaking on the occasion, Leishangthem Thoiren stated that society can exist in harmony when youths follow Hijam Irabot's lessons of unity and idea of collectivism- working for the good of the community first, and for the individual second.

He also pointed out that the younger generation must acknowledge and honour the contributions made by the revolutionary social activist in trying to establish a society free of oppression where one reaps the rightful fruits of their hard work.
Stating that Hijam Irabot went underground in 1950 and fled to Burma (Myanmar), he shared that he breathed his last on September 26, 1951 at Tangbo village located at the foothills of the Anggo Hills.
As such, his death anniversary continues to be observed as "State Mourn Day', he added.
Irabot Memorial Trust
Floral tributes and homage was paid to the Hijam Irabot Memorial stone erected at Keibi Manaching today to mark the 71st death anniversary of Hijam Irabot organised by Irabot Memorial Trust.
Founder of the Trust, Ningthoukhongjam Moirangningthou who also took part in farmers' revolution under the leadership of Hijam Irabot led in paying homage and floral tributes, said a press release by the Trust.
N Moirangningthou while speaking at the occasion appealed to the youths to uphold the ideals of Hijam Irabot inorder to actualise his visions.
JSCC
The Joint Students' Co-ordination Committee (JSCC) also observed the death anniversary of Hijam Irabot at Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) office at Khuyathong today.
Remembering the dedicated and remarkable contributions of this eminent leader for his vision of an egalitarian society, the members of JSCC paid floral tributes to the photo of the leader, said a press release by JSCC.
The student body while recounting the significant moves of this visionary leader who strove earnestly for the establishment of schools in every village to provide education to all and to young girls in particular, appealed to all to adhere to his principles and follow his footsteps.
