Imphal, June 26 2016:
Seventeen Congress workers and former PDS agents of Patsoi AC have left Congress decrying favouritism allegedly shown by Patsoi Block Congress Committee (PBCC) and Social Welfare Minister and local MLA AK Mirabai in the selection of Fare Price Shop agents of National Food Security Act (NFSA).
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club, JAC Against Newly Selected Fair Price Shop of Patsoi AC co-convenor Thongam Arun alleged that AK Mirabai and PBCC did not select Fare Price Shop agents in a fair manner.
As the Minister and PBCC executives indulged in favouritism, 17 former PDS agents, who were also the active Congress workers, unanimously decided to tender resignation and leave the party, Arun said.
He said that they had been working for the party with dedication since the past many years as they believe in the democratic principles of the party.
However, they were discouraged and compelled to part ways with the party due to the dictarorial nature of the Minister.
He alleged that the Minister had collected Rs 1000 to 2000 from all the PDS agents for trade license and renewal fees.
Moreover, the Minister has also not refunded the security deposits of Rs 5000 each of all these 17 agents despite repeated requests although she had earlier promised them to refund it with interest, Arun added.
He further said that no ration card of NFSA has been distributed to the public till date.
He also urged the public to file RTI to seek information regarding the current status of NFSA implementation in the AC.
