Imphal, September 24 2011:
Alleging that officials of Directorate of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has shiphoned off PDS items in the State, Manipur Peoples Party (MPP) has drawn attention of the CBI to investigate the matter.
In a representation submitted to CBI Director, MPP alleged that 90 percent of the PDS items were misappropriated while only 10 percent reached the beneficiaries in the State.
It came to light after the regional political party sought information from the concerned Directorate through RTI regarding distribution of PDS items in the State from 2007 to 2010, the representation said.
It added, according to the report made available by the Directorate, PDS items were distributed to the beneficiaries regularly.
It questioned, if it was case why the common people in different parts of the State are making hue and cry of not getting of PDS items.
It clearly indicated that the concerned Directorate officials in connivance with local agents had siphoned off these items on regular basis, the representation alleged.
The party also urged the CBI to investigate into the matter at the earliest.
