Imphal, July 22 2018:
Senior Citizens for Society Manipur secretary, senior Advocate Khaidem Mani has claimed that a mutual agreement in the Assembly to pressure the Central Government to conduct a judicial enquiry over Vice Chancellor Professor Adya Prasad Pandey, is the only way to bring normalcy to Manipur University.
Speaking to media persons, Khaidem Mani said that as various allegations involving financial irregularities and administration failures have been levelled against the current VC, the only plausible step is to conduct a judicial enquiry under Commission of Enquiry Act 1952 .
The judicial enquiry should be conducted by a committee led by someone not less than a retired High Court Judge and one or two retired VCs.
Khaidem Mani explained that during the investigation, a senior Professor can take charge of the post of VC and the current VC need to be barred from carrying out any duties by means of force leave or pay leave.
He claimed that the fact finding committee constituted by the HRD Ministry is not a judicial enquiry and this is one of the main reasons why the university community has rejected the fact finding committee.
He further appealed to all the political parties, irrespective or ruling or Opposition, to pressure the Central Government to do the needful as the university issue has affected not only MU but all other colleges affiliated to the university as well as the whole State.
