Imphal, May 21 2022:
The Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur (PPCM) has appealed to all shopkeepers and dealers not to hike the prices of essential commodities in the wake of the problems faced by the masses due to the recent incessant rainfall in the State.
PPCM in a press release said that the heavy rainfall in the past few days caused floods in many areas of the State, landslides leading to blockage of roads hindering regular supply of essential items and so on.
Taking advantage of such situations, PPCM maintained that shopkeepers and dealers have hiked the price of essential commodities adding more burden to the already affected people which is really unfortunate.
PPCM also expressed belief that there is a high possibility that expired products are being sold to the customers which may cause many adverse health hazards if consumed.
Therefore in view of such an alarming situation, the committee urged the authorities concerned to probe the matter at the earliest and award befitting punishments to the perpetrators as per Law.
Further PPCM also informed that it will start conducting inspection visits at shops, markets to check on unreasonable price hike and adherence to proper rules and regulations.
