Imphal, April 21 2019: Manipur Urological Society (MUS) organized its first annual conference, MUSCON 2019, at Hotel Classic, North AOC today.

Renowned Urologist Dr Ajay Kumar, MUS president Dr S Rajendra Singh, secretary Dr Kh Somarendra, MUSCON 2019 Organizing Chairman Dr S Sekharjit Singh and Organizing Secretary Dr K Sholay Meitei, graced the function as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.

Speaking at the event, Ajay Kumar stressed on the need for urologists in Eastern Zone of India to make concerted efforts to advance the scopes of urology in the region.

He traced the genesis of Urological Society of India in the Eastern part of India and said that some urologists in the Eastern region/zone, including him, had initiated the relevant works to ensure the presence of Urological Society in the region.

Saying that various kinds of transplantation related with urology, including renal transplantation, have almost become a routine thing in the Eastern part of India, the urologist expressed happiness that the outcome of the initiatives taken up by few urologists in the past can be now felt in society.

Pointing out that more Urologists and medical institutions having various courses for urology, have sprung up in Eastern part of India, Ajay Kumar exuded confidence that the younger Urologists will take a pivotal role in enhancing knowledge on urological science in the region.

While noting that the region lacks the scope of robotic surgery, Ajay Kumar also urged the younger Urologists coming up in the said region to give special emphasis on robotic surgery.

Dr Rajendra highlighted the trend of Urology in the State saying Urologists and other doctors during 1960s had to rely/depend on the clinical laboratory at Vellore even for urine culture as such facility was not available in the State at that time.

He added that there have been lots of significant changes in the field of Urology in the State with the Urology transplantation and many other Urological aspects making great leaps and bounds.

Many other Urologists, including Dr Rajeev Sood, Dr Rajeev TP and Dr Bernard Amer also presented papers and gave poster presentations apart from discussing various topics related with Urology during the technical session which was held later today.
