Government alone cannot win 'war against drugs: Henry

Minister for Social Welfare Okram Henry stated that the Government alone cannot win the war against drugs without the support and cooperation of the CSOs, NGOs and people of the State.
He made the statement at the inaugural function of 15 days free detoxification camp at Angtha Mamang Leikai, Imphal East today.
The detoxification camp is jointly organised by Holistic Vista Substance Use Disorders Treatment Centre, Ningthemcha Karong and Right Living De-addiction Centre, Mayang Imphal.
Speaking at the function, Okram Henry said that the State Government is trying its best to stop illegal drug trafficking and overcome the problem of drug abuse in the State.
He mentioned that substance abuse has the capability to destroy the present as well as future generations.
We need mass awareness and sensitization campaigns about the ill effects of drug abuse in our society, he added.
The Minister maintained that proper counseling and treatment is needed for drug users so as to overcome from the bondage of drugs and other psychotropic substances.
He assured that the government would extend every possible help to those groups or individuals who are working to protect and prevent our youths from the clutches of drug abuse.
While delivering his presidential address, Bijoy Kakchingtabam, president, AMWJU emphasized on the social consequences of drug abuse in our society.
During the function, The Holistic Vista Substance Use Disorders Treatment Centre, Ningthemcha Karong and Right Living De-addiction Centre, Mayang Imphal presented a Letter of Appreciation to the Social Welfare Minister for his support in conducting the camp.
President, Liwa Club, Lamding Ojit Sorokhaibam, chief functionary of Holistic Vista Substance Use Disorders Treatment Centre Sapam Lalit, senior counselor of Holistic Vista Substance Use Disorders Treatment Centre Anil Khuraijam, club members and others were also present at the function.
