Imphal, January 19 2019:
Whereas all bridge construction works and short term improvement as well as routine maintenance works of NH 37 (Imphal-Jiribam highway) have been suspended for the past six days following a ban imposed by the Local Land and Property Owners Association NH 37/39, no bidder responded to the tender floated for construction of Irang Bridge anew with RCC.
Demanding payment of due compensation amounts, the Local Land and Property Owners Association NH 37/39 imposed complete ban on all construction and maintenance works on NH 37 since January 14.Taking serious note of the ban, the NHIDCL submitted a representation to the State DGP on January 17 seeking immediate intervention of the State Government.
DGP LM Khaute told The Sangai Express that the concerned district police has been instructed to take up necessary measures in connection with the ban imposed by the Local Land and Property Owners Association NH 37/39.Meanwhile, negotiation has been going on with the association to lift the ban.
A broad understanding has been reached with the association to resolve their issue of pending compensation through dialogue with the concerned Deputy Commissioner, said the DGP.
On the other hand, a notice inviting tender was issued in December last year for construction of Irang Bridge with RCC as a standard bridge of four lanes but no bidder applied for the tender.
As such, afresh notice would be issued.
According to information received from NHTDCL, the new Irang Bridge would be constructed in EPC (Engineering Procurement and Construction) mode.
The estimated cost of the bridge is Rs 3.75 crore and a target has been already set to complete the construction work within 650 days.
The new bridge would be 0.36 Km in length and its post construction maintenance period is 10 years.
The NHIDCL Managing Director arrived here today and he would call on the Chief Minister tomorrow.
He would also call on the Governor before holding a meeting with the Chief Secretary on January 21 .
