Around 1200 displaced persons sheltering in Kangpokpi shifted to Churachandpur

Kangpokpi, May 18 2023:
As many as 1200 displaced persons from Churachandpur district who were evacuated from Imphal to Kangpokpi district were shifted to Churachandpur district today.
With the initiative of the Kangpokpi District Administration in collaboration with the Kangpokpi District Relief Committee, Kangpokpi Town Relief Committee, Kangpokpi District Police, Assam Rifles, and the Central Reserve Police Force the residents of Churachandpur district who were willing to return were brought back today with heavy security.
The displaced Churachandpur residents gathered at Brig M Thomas Ground as early as 4:30 am in the morning.
The shifted persons include men, women, young and old children and a few sick persons who were transported in as many as 15 vehicles.
Speaking to North East Live, Lunseh Kipgen, chairman of the Kangpokpi District Relief Committee said that around 1200 people who wished to return to their district were transported in 15 vehicles (12 vehicles from Kangpokpi town and the rest from the Motbung area) .
While conveying gratitude to the district administration, and district police for initiating such a humanitarian gesture, Kipgen also thanked the Assam Rifles and the CRPF for providing security for safe passage.
He also expressed his wish for the people to reach their respective homes safe and sound.
Meanwhile, the displaced 1200 Churachandpur people reportedly reached Churachandpur Peace Ground safely at around 3:30 pm in the afternoon.
