Leading the pack of candidates who would be contesting the by-election to five Assembly segments, Ngamthang Haokip, BJP candidate in Saitu AC filed his nomination papers today.
He submitted his nomination papers to the RO concerned.
However, no other candidate has filed his/her nomination paper till date.
Whereas the by-election is scheduled on November 7, October 20 has been notified as the last date for submission of nomination papers.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the Unified Command was held today with Chief Minister N Biren in the chair regarding security arrangements for the by-election.
The meeting which was attended by the Chief Secretary, 3 Corps Commander, GOC 57 Mountain Division, DGP, IG AR (South), IG CRPF and DIG BSF reviewed the prevailing law and order situation.
Police Department has asked the Chief Electoral Officer to determine the strength of State police and the number of companies of Central paramilitary forces that would be required for the by-election.
Altogether 1,57,658 voters are expected to exercise their right to adult franchise at 254 polling stations spread across five Assembly segments viz; Lilong, Wangjing-Tentha, Wangoi, Saitu and Singnat.
The Chief Minister also held another meeting today with the MAHUD Minister and officials concerned and discussed about construction of a VIP guest house at the old High Court complex.
