Manipuri people living in Bangalore organized a mass general convention on August 14 at Austin town community hall, Bangalore-47 to share the concerns over the present situation in their homeland Manipur.
Everybody in the convention condemned imposition of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 in Manipur and demanded immediate lifting of the Act in view of rampant abuse by the security personnel, TI Singh, president of Manipuri Meitei Association, Bangalore, which had organized the mass general convention stated in a statement available to the press today.
All the participants paid homage to the victims of Armed Forces Special Powers Act and notably to the recent victim Thangjam Manorama by standing silently for a minute, he informed.
During the mass general convention, the participants performed a signature campaign and collected a total amount of Rs 5930 to be donated to the emergency relief committees at RIMS and JN Hospital, he added.
