RIMS clarifies on Kheroda's death

RIMS has made a detailed clarification on the death of Th (O) Kheroda of Khurai Kongpal Sajor Leikai on July 6 last.
In a statement, HOD in-charge of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of RIMS, Dr M Rameswar said that Dr Trinity Meitei started his evening duty at 8 pm of the said day.
Kheroda delivered her second baby by normal delivery at 8:26 pm, Dr M Rameswar said and added that she was having low haemoglobin and mild bleeding during delivery so first unit of blood transfusion was started at the time of delivery.
Dr Trinity Meitei examined all the patients in the labour room observation beds on the day and counselled all the relatives individually regarding the condition of the mothers.
During the round, two patients were found requiring emergency caesarian operation and another patient who might require emergency operation afterwards, Dr M Rameswar said.
The patients requiring emergency operation were shifted to RIMS operation theatre, and the first caesarian baby was delivered at 9.48 pm, Dr M Rameswar said.
At 9.55 pm, Dr Trinity was informed another patient would be shifted to OT for further management.
The second caesarian baby was delivered at 10.50 pm, Dr M Rameswar said.
During the operation, Dr Trinity was informed about the status of Kheroda over the phone by the doctor in the labour room and he instructed the doctor at labour room to shift Kheroda to OT for further management.
By that time the second unit of blood was also started, Dr M Rameswar said.
The Head of Unit, Prof NK Singh was also informed about Kheroda's condition and he also reached OT without delay.
In the meantime, the third patient was screaming with labour pain and she was immediately shifted to OT and a baby delivered by instruments at 11.39 pm.
Kheroda was taken inside OT for examination under anaesthesia after taking high risk consent, Dr M Rameswar said.
During the examination it was decided that immediate removal of the womb was not required and vaginal packing procedure was done, he said and added that Kheroda was shifted to ICU after the procedure.
Inspite of giving four units of blood, two units of white blood and I-V fluid and other resuscitative measures taken by the whole team she failed to respond to the treatment and expired at 4.30 am of July 6 .
