Imphal, November 15 2020:
Changes in the religious and cultural norms of Manipur, which had its own distinct ways since ancient time has been seen recently.
Changes in the way of Ningol Chakkouba during Maharaja Chandrakirti is also one of them, said South East Asia Cultural Organisation (SEACO).
SEACO said Ningol Chakkouba, which celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters, is a very unique festival.
The festival serves as a very important reminder to revive the bond of love which has dwindled in the recent past owing to change in lifestyle in Manipur.
SEACO reminded the need to celebrate the festival in a scaled down manner keeping in mind the pandemic situation at present and also to maintain SOPs strictly.
SEACO also clarified on the matter of confusion regarding the actual date for Ningol Chakkouba saying that Kangleipak Calendar Board utilising scientific method has calculated that November 16 is the second day of Hiyangei month of Manipuri lunar calendar and so it is the true day of Ningol Chakkouba.
