Imphal, March 15 2016:
A woman who was suffering from womb cancer known as carcinoma cervix in medical jargon has been given a new lease of life by a surgical team of Imphal Hospital and Research Centre by removing the cancerous womb.
After completing the surgical operation (radical hysterectomy) successfully, one senior gynaecologist of the hospital told media persons that womb cancer which was quite common in Manipur sometime back has declined nowadays.
He said that they convened the press meet to convey a message to the masses that womb cancer can be cured if detected early.
There is radical hysterectomy facility in RIMS, JNIMS and some other hospitals but there is shortage of specialist doctors.
Some common factors for womb cancer are early marriage by women, repeated child birth and sharing multiple sex partners by women, said the gynaecologist.
If a woman who is above 35 years starts effusing unknown but smelly fluids or bloods from her private parts after having sex and if she is suffering from persistent back-ache or pain in the abdomen, she should consult a gynaecologist, advised the doctor.
It is risky if womb cancer is detected at latter stages, he added.
