Security up ahead of I-Day celebration

Police took up heavy security measures in different parts of the State in light of the Independence Day celebration tomorrow.
Security measures were intensified today, with police launching cordon and house to house search operations in different parts of the State, apart from frisking and checking of vehicles at various junctions.
A team of Imphal West commandos launched a cordon and search operation at Keishamthong Top Leirak today morning during which more than 200 individuals were verified.
Later in the evening, the same commando team conducted a cordon and search operation at Chingamathak but no one was detained or picked up.
Police also conducted search at various hotels located in Paona and Thangal Bazar as well.
On the other hand, a combined team of 15 Assam Rifles, special commandos and Imphal East commandos conducted a massive operation at Baruni hill range, hill top and the adjoining village today morning, in an effort to thwart any attempts to disrupt the Independence Day celebration.
During the search operation, the combined team verified the construction workers and staff of Mahadeva temple and Sanamahi Temple situated at the hill range.
The security personnel deployed at Baruni outpost including their arms Kote were checked by the police team.
A large number of security personnel, both State and para military forces, has been deployed along important roads of the State capital to prevent any unwanted incident and in consideration of the general strike imposed by the UG outfits.
Police also used sniffer dogs to find and neutralise any threats during the operations.
