Ex-MP W Angou met Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh today morning and discussed various issues including the present situation in Manipur.
Conveying this to The Sangai Express, W Angou informed that during the meeting he apprised the Prime Minister that the people of Manipur are suffering from frequent imposition of blockades as the development of the three National Highways passing through the State has been delayed and could not be accomplished within the deadlines.
In order to solve the problem, the Centre should ensure development of the highways within a time-frame, said Angou.
To monitor utilisation of the fund released for PMG-SY and MNREGS in Manipur, the ex-MP proposed to the Prime Minister to set up of a monitoring cell comprising MPs.
This is essential in view of the fact that though the Centre is said to have released huge amount of fund for implementation of these scheme, how they are being utilised is not known, the ex-MP pointed out.
He further said that the Prime Minister has also been pressurised to take over the developmental works being taken up in the villages of border areas instead of entrusting the task to the respective State Government so as to avoid any room for conglict.
It is said that the Prime Minister had also conveyed to him that he (Prime Minister) would be visiting Manipur after the end of the ongoing Parliament session.
