Protestors attempting to disturb a government function attending by the chief minister, O Ibobi today was foiled by the police on duty at the function site as protest against fake encounter and demanding resignation of chief minister and dismiss of police commando personnel continued today also.
Police have detained 14 of the protestors who tried to disturbed the function.
Around 100 womenfolk marching a rally towards Porompat police station demanding release of the detained protestors started from Khoyathong was foiled by police at North AOC.
Reports of women gathering around 50 women at the Porompat police station this night also reported.
Women protestors-members of Apunba Lup and JAC formed in connection with the killing of Ch Sanjit in fake encounter rushed towards the function site shouting slogans decrying the unveiling of the curtail of the Thangal General by chief minister O Ibobi alleging that he is not a man who think of his people around 9 am while the function started.
Government organized a function in connection with the unveiling of curtail of newly erected statue of Thangal General-hero of Anglo-Manipur war of 1891 at the traffic island at Palace compound opposite to RDX School.
They women protestors shouted that chief minister, O Ibobi is not a worthy person to unveil the statue of the brave son of the state.
Around 30 women protestors of the Apunba Lup and JAC formed in connection with killing of Ch Sanjit in fake encounter on July 23 last took part in the protest which police rounded up 14 of them including six members of Apunba Lup and eight from JAC.
Among them, the convener of JAC, Ch Anita and women leader of Apunba Lup, L Landhoni also included.
On getting the news of detention of the 14 women protestors, around 100 women volunteers of the Apunba Lup gathered at the office of the Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Lup at Khoyathong today at about 1 pm and marched a rally targeting the Porompat police station where the 14 women were kept detain.
A woman leader speaking to reporters covering the rally said, they will continue the agitations till the demand put forward to the Governor demanding action taken against the chief minister and police personnel are converted into works.
A team of Imphal west police blocked the rally at North AOC preventing them from further proceeding.
Later, women police personnel led by a police officer convinced the protestors and given permission to proceed only 10 of them to the Porompat police station.
Failure on the part of the police to release the detained women, another group of around 50 women also stormed the Porompat police station this late evening.
Meanwhile, slogan shouting rallies were organized tonight at different part of the state demanding resignation of the chief minister O Ibobi and exemplary punishment to the police commandos involved in the killing of Ch Sanjit in fake encounter.
At about 8.15 pm around 200 womenfolk of Poarabi Lamjing Nupi Lup, Wangoi Awang Leikai Meira Paibi and Huidrom Meira Paibi Lup organized a rally in protest against the fake encounter by shouting slogans.
At Mekola also another protest rally was organized by womenfolk of Mekola, Meitram, Lairenjam, Kondompokpi.
Around 1000 people took part in the rally.
