Jiribam, June 13 2017:
The Nungkhal villagers have raised objections on the encroachment of village reserve forest areas by outsiders causing disturbances and inconveniences to the villagers, reports our correspondent.
The villagers reported that on June 9, the Pradhan of Dibong Gram Panchayat Mani Singh and the Chairman of Settlement Department, Jiribam Maipak Singh came to Nungkhal and without the consent of the village authority started to chop down trees of the reserved area.
The Pradhan and Chairman used police force against the villagers when the villagers tried to stop them.
The villagers have appealed the local MLA, DC, Jiribam and the relevant authorities concerned to look into the matter and bring justice to the villagers.
Following the incident, 'Nungkhal Village Reserve Protection Committee' was formed in a general meeting of Nungkhal villagers.
