Imphal, May 13 2015 :
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has condemned in the strongest term the brutal murder of two labourers and physical torture of a young student by KRF militants at Thingsat.
Speaking at the flag hoisting ceremony of an INC candidate at Khonglong Kabui village today, Gaikhangam called upon all the State to stand united and firm against all divisive forces who are scheming to create rifts and antagonism among different communities who have been living in harmony since time immemorial.
He stated that all those involved in the heinous crime would be awarded befitting punishment.
Meanwhile AMUCO and UCM have also condemned the brutal double murder in the strongest term.
Speaking to media persons at their Lamphelpat office today, UCM president E Johnson said that some elements have been conspiring consistently to ignite communal conflagration in the State.
There is a strong suspicion of the presence of a political hand behind the brutal murder and burial of two labourers at Thingsat.
There have been several instances in the recent past which were all aimed at pitching one community against another.
The Government should act promptly, pull up all the culprits and award them exemplary punishment so that such incidents do not happen in future rather than trying to pacify the tensed situation by awarding compensation to the bereaved families, Johnson said.
Such incidents which are directly challenging the integrity of Manipur should be tackled with the right dose of political will and vision instead of resorting to ad-hoc measures, asserted AMUCO vice-president Ph Deban.
