Imphal, May 13 2013:
Taking strong exception against the alleged threats issued by police commandos on the villagers of Naga River Colony (Kabo Leikai), North AOC, to vacate the place or face dire consequences, the executive member of the Meira Paibi Naga River Colony has urged the authorities concerned to look into the matter so that the law of the land is respected.
in a statement, the executive member said that after the State Govt notified for the acquisition of the Kabo Leikai for building a 5 Star Hotel on Dec 17,2010, some indigenous villagers had filed a writ petition before the High Court against the acquisition process.
During the pendency of the case, the State Government issued another order, nullifying the pattas of the villagers, said the statement.
Aggrieved by the order of the Government, the villagers approached the High Court to impugn the order of the Government and after hearing both the parties, the High Court issued an order on April 18, 2013 to maintain the status quo.
Despite the standing order of the Court, the police commandos came and threatened the villagers to vacate or face the consequences, alleged the state- ment and added that this goes against the spirit of upholding the law of the land.
