IKAL presents awards

Iramdam Kanba Apunba Lup (IKAL) has honoured Mutum Subita (44) w/o Achouba of Keibi Kumuda Leikai, who has given birth to 15 children, with the Khunai Yokhatpi Ima award at a function held at Manipur Press Club today.
The organisation also feted Saoraisam (O) Modhubala w/o Arunkumar of Saiton Heiyaikon Maning Leikai with Chaoyok Naoyok Phabi Ima award for making all her eight children educated and self reliant.
At the same function, Khumanthem Manihar, Head Master of Nambol Leiren High School, Phoijing was awarded Government School Gi Ahpaba Oja award.
All the awards carry a certificate and cash prizes.
Wangoi AC MLA Oinam Lukhoi, IKAL president Wahengbam Luwangleima, AMWJU president W Shamjai and Zenith Academy Director Dr S Manaoton attended the function as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Giving his speech, O Lukhoi said that every country has its own Constitution and every citizen of the country must abide by the Constitution.
He said that MLAs and Ministers are no exception and they need to act according to the Constitution whether its is regarding to State issue or any National issue.
The MLA observed that indulgence in prejudicial activities while pressing any demand would dilute the democratic principles.
Saying that he also morally supports the ongoing ILPS movement, O Lukhoi said that he is also part of the State Assembly which passed the three ILPS Bills.
Maintaining that it is known to everybody that there is some guidelines which are to be followed for the conversion of Bills into Acts, Lukhoi said that some points are beyond the powers of an MLA but to be done the Union Government or the President.
The MLA said that the State Government is doing whatever it can regarding ILPS issue.
He also expressed hope that people would fulfil its wish to have ILPS in the State one day.
O Lukhoi further said that people Manipur would become a developed State only when its people maintain unity and peace.
Regarding ST status demand for Meeteis/Meiteis, Lukhoi said that people need to deliberate it thoroughly before arriving at any conclusion.
