Acting on a tip-off, a huge quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered during a search operation carried out jointly by Kangpokpi district police and 33 Assam Rifles personnel from a jungle 5 kilometers away from Haijang village in Kangpokpi district on July 8 afternoon.
According to a reliable source, the joint team of Kangpokpi police and 33 Assam Rifles C-Coy received specific information about a weapon hideout on July 6 evening and subsequently conducted a massive search operation in different areas near Haijang village.
The weapon hideout was detected on July 8 and arms and ammunition including one AK-47 Assault Rifle along with 2 magazines, one MA-1 Assault Rifle with magazine, 3 magazines of M-16, one lethod gun, four country made pistol with four magazines, four radio sets with charger, one UBGL grenade, one mortar projectile, 70 live rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 3 live rounds of 0.22 ammunition and 16 live rounds of 5.56mm ammunition were recovered.
Kangpokpi police have registered a case under different sections of IPC and Arms Act for further investigation, said the source.
