Impasse at IGNTU resolved, classes to resume today

The impasse at the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University -Regional Campus Manipur (IGNTU-RCM) has been resolved.
Following this development normal classes are likely to resume from June 11.According to the All Tribal Students Union, Manipur (ATSUM), on receipt of the written assurance from the office of the Registrar, Indira Gandhi National University, Lalpur, Amarkantak, Madhya Pradesh, the agitating IGNTU- RCM students' union, executives of ATSUM and the administration of IGNTU-RCM viz, SL Varte, Deputy Registrar, Joseph Lalremrout, Assistant Registrar and Dr Ngalengnam, Associate Professor, Political Science Department held a meeting on the current impasse and reached an understanding to call off the indefinite closure of IGNTU-RCM which began from May 3, 2018.According to the ATSUM, the assurances given via an e-mail from the office of the Registrar, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Lalpur, Amarkantak, Madhya Pradesh included that students intake will be considered for increase based on the existing class room capacity and number of applicants.
The office of the Registrar also assured that course fee for both PG and PhD will be considered for revision subject to the approval of finance committee.
It further assured that facility for e-library and access to e-journals will be made available at the earliest.
The office of the Registrar also assured that facility for JRF (UGC-NET) coaching centre will be extended to Regional Campus Manipur (RCM).
It further assured that IGNOU study centre will start functioning once approval letter is received from the IGNOU head quarters.
The e-mail from the office of the Registrar also said that NSS Cell is already approved and ready to operate at the earliest possible.
The office of the Registrar also assured that finance assistance to conduct study tour prescribed in curriculum/syllabus and programs in the departments will be processed as per applicable university rules.
The office of the Registrar further assured for extension of PhD stipend as per the university rules, ATSUM added.
According to the office of the Registrar, RCM management committee will be formed as per guidelines of the University.
It also mentioned that Special cell for Regional Campus Manipur (RCM) has been constituted at the headquarters.
"Temporary hostel facility like barracks for boys will be considered as per feasibility of the proposal to be submitted by the RCM," the e-mail added.
While thanking the students of IGNTU- RCM for extending utmost support and co-operation during the agitation, Haokhomang Chongloi, president, IGNTU-RCM students' union appealed the students to "kindly" come back to the University for attending classes from June 11, 2018 .
