Shija Hospitals treats 14 patients from Mizoram for congenital heart defects

After 162 successful non-operative device closures of holes in the heart, Shija Heart Beat, in collaboration with Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), National Health Mission, Mizoram organized a two-day device closure camp for congenital heart defect (CHD) patients on December 2-3, 2022, at Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI), Imphal.
As per a press release by the Manager - Business Development (BD) SHRI, the cardiac team of Shija treated 14 patients from Mizoram with device closures, balloon pulmonary valvotomy, and wire removal.
The patients were screened during the one-day "Free Heart Disease Screening Camp" held at DEIC Kulikawn, Aizawl on November 15, 2022 .
It is worth mentioning that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between SHRI and RBSK, National Health Mission, Mizoram, on November 14, 2022 .
These children were treated at Shija Heart Beat under the RBSK Scheme.
In connection with the camp, a press conference was held yesterday at Shija Auditorium.
During the press conference, Dr Palin Khundongbam, CMD SHRI; Dr Jugindra Sorokhaibam, Director - Medical Services, SHRI; Dr Sumidra Laishram, Consultant Cardiologist and Dr Sidartha Lukram, Consultant Cardio- Thoracic & Vascular Surgeon, SHRI spoke about the camp and treatment of Congenital Heart Disease and Cardiovascular Diseases.
For the first time in India, the team of experts at Shija used 5 french delivery sheaths to treat very tight VSD holes of a 7 year old patient from Mizoram during the camp.
Shija Heart Beat has successfully completed 165 angioplasty procedures, 177 device closures, and 27 open heart surgeries till date.
