Congress emerges as single largest party in IMC poll

Imphal, June 07 2016:
Congress has emerged as the single largest party winning 12 seats in Imphal Municipal Cor-poration election for which counting of votes ended this evening.
BJP followed its arch-rival closely registering win in 10 seats while Independent candidates claimed victory in five seats.
Counting of votes resumed under tight security arrangement at Lamphelpat DC office complex from 8 am today.
Maisnam Joychandra of Congress defeated his nearest rival Independent candidate Pheiroijam Memchatombi by a margin of 741 votes in Ward No 11 .

Joychandra secured 2175 votes.
In Ward No 12, Independent candidate Potshangbam Premila, who garnered 1812 votes defeated her nearest rival Yumnam Ulkad of BJP by 154 votes.
BJP's Oinam Romio registered win in Ward No 13 defeating Raghumani of Congress by 707 votes.
Romio got 3475 votes.
In ward 14, Samom Rita of Congress who got 1954 votes defeated Laimayum Rajiv Sharma of BJP by 198 votes while Ward No 15 went to BJP's kitty with its candidate Thokchom Bankimchandra overcoming Salam Sushilkumar of Congress by 539 votes.
Bankimchandra secured 1803 votes.
In Ward No 16, Thokchom Elija of BJP voted out Puyam Chanu Ibemcha by 1225 votes.
Elija got a total of 3194 votes.
BJP's Laishangbam Lokeshore defeated RK Sachi of Congress by a margin of 1586 votes in Ward No 17.Lokeshore got 3932 votes.
In ward No 24, G Bino of Congress registered win defeating her nearest rival and Independent candidate Kalanchonglu Gangmei by a margin of 364 votes.
Bino got 1422 votes.
Sujata Phaomei of BJP who secured total 1974 votes defeated her nearest rival Dolly Golmei of Congress in Ward No 25.Dolly secured 1028 votes.
In Ward No 27, Herojit Ngangomba of Congress defeated his nearest rival Soraisam Memsana of CPI by a modest margin of 8 votes.
Herojit got 1947 votes.
