Death anniversary observed

The 1st death anniversary of renowned theatre personality and Padma Bhushan awardee Heisnam Kanhailal was observed at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound today by paying floral tributes and discusing his life's achievements .
The observance function was attended by Arts and Culture Minister L Jayantakumar as chief guest, Dr K Sushila, Director (Arts & Culture) as president and Prof HS Shivaprakash of JNU as guest of honour .
In his speech, Jayantakumar said that late Heisnam Kanhailal strove ceaselessly to develop Manipuri theatre.
He instilled the passion for theatre in the youth of the State.
He was a true visionary in the field of theatre who played an important role in uplighting the art form in the State .
Prof Shivprakash said that influence of Kanhailal’s works is not limited to Manipuri theatre but also extends to other art forms as well.
His extraordinary leadership qualities created a big impact in the field of theatre not only in the country but all over the world, he added.
