5th case of JE confirmed at Ukhrul

Ukhrul, September 06 2019:
A case of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) has been detected at T Godah village, Ukhrul district the first case for the said village and the fifth in Ukhrul district.
This is as per a report of National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), Ukhrul.
At least five cases of Japanese Encephalitis were detected and confirmed during June-July this year in Ukhrul district hospital but so far no report of Dengue has been reported/confirmed in the district.
During a brief interaction with district consultant Dr Singamla Angkhang of National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), Ukhrul said that among the five JE cases reported, four were found positive, and explained that of the five, three cases pertained to students who had contracted the disease at Bihar while the JE case of T Godah village was found to be indigenous.
Dr Singamla also mentioned that one case of malaria was also detected from Chatric village during July at Kamjong district.
She added that so far there is no report of Dengue cases in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Ukhrul Dr Kapangring A Shimray said that following the detection of JE in T Godah village about 40 kms away from Ukhrul town, preparatios are on for JE vaccination for children betwen 9 months and 15 years.
Chemically treated mosquito nets have also been distributed to villagers of T Godah village following the detection of JE there.
Awareness camps have also been launched.
The CMO also mentioned that active surveillance is on to tackle any epidemic in the district.
Dr Kapangring also mentioned that a micro-plan for vaccination programme has been submitted to the State Government.
