Main-taining that the State Government has failed to translate the charter of demands into action within the stipulated time of last week of July, the All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur has announced that it is now ready to launch intense movement to get their demands.
In a statement issued to the press today, ATSUM said that following its consistent demand to recruit the required number of teachers in the educational institutions, the Department of Higher and Technical Education regularised the services of 418 part time college lecturers on May 10 this year.
However out of the total number of regularised teachers, the number of ST teachers stood only at 31, said ATSUM and added that the actual number should be 129 as per the existing roster system.
To make up for the shortfall of 98 seats, the MPSC recruited 184 ST teachers in a direct recruitment process of 280 Assistant Professors for 28 colleges.
The interview for the same was held in January this year.
The ban on recruitment in the 1990s and early part of the millennium saw a steep rise in unemployment of the educated youngsters and many have crossed the age bar for appearing in competitive examinations conducted by the UPSC and MPSC.
If anything goes wrong in the declaration of the exams for recruitment of Assistant Professors, the State Government should be held solely responsible, said ATSUM.
The same is the case with the recruitment process of lecturers for higher secondary schools.
It is unfair that the candidates should be victimised due to the act of commission and omission of the State Government, said the student body and urged the State Government to fulfil their charter of demands as assured by the Chief Minister on June 16 this year.
