A consumers' awareness campaign on 'Electricity Regulation Act 2003' jointly organised by Department of Economics, Imphal College and Youth Progressive Front, Yaingangpokpi was held today at Yaingangpokpi community hall with former Tangkhul Long president Sweeten Rahing, Associate Professor of Department of Economics (Imphal College) Dr Meinam Binota and Dr Keisham Manibabu Singh attending the campaign as chief guest, guest of honour and functional president respectively.
Highlighting that regular supply of electricity is an essential element for all round development, Sweeten Rahing desired that the Government of Manipur accord top priority on improving the power supply condition.
The chief guest also called upon the consumers to culture habit of clearing power bills in time as such a practice will facilitate the Government to ensure sufficient power supply.
Commenting on the issue, Dr Meinam Binota emphasised on sincerity and commitment of both the power consumers and management of power service provider to ensure satisfactory power supply scenario in the State.
She also opined that strict adherence to guidelines of Joint Electricity Regulation Commission would be helpful in improving the situation.
As resource persons of the awareness campaign, Nagaland university's Head of Sociology Prof Rajendra Kshetri spoke on 'Consumers' Role in Power Management and Public Interest', Head of Department (Economics) of Imphal College Th Joychandra Singh on 'Consumers' Expectation and their grievances', and K Jila Singh on 'Role of electricity dept.
