CCpur, February 05 2018:
In what is probably the first of its kind in Manipur, the newly formed Churachandpur based charitable organisation, Ropiang Foundation, distributed 80 jackets at its office at Mission Road, Churachandpur.
Churachandpur DC Shyam Lal Poonia (IAS) officiated the distribution program in the presence of the chairman, secretary and other office-bearers of the Foundation.
The noble gesture was taken up in collaboration with Clothes Box Foundation, which supplied the jackets.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Thangchinkhup Guite, chairman, Ropiang Foundation Trust, said that it is probably the first time in the district's history that the neediest section of the society have availed the branded luxury jackets which even upper middle class persons rarely purchase.
He also talked about Ropiang Guite, the foundation's name sake - how he founded Sialbu village, and that his 2nd son, Pumkhothang Guite, founded Lamka in 1930, which is now the 2nd largest settlement in Manipur.
The Deputy Commissioner Shyam Lal Poonia also appreciated the Foundation for their works so far and encouraged them to do more such activities in future.
The altruistic gesture was a hit, as many eligible persons who could not get their hands on the pricey jakcet due to the limited numbers are kept in the waiting list.
These recipients of the jackets are chosen by the said Foundation on the basis of their income (less than Rs 50,000 per annum) and other criteria.
They mostly consist of orphans and abandoned children, physically handicapped persons, dwellers of village interiors and daily labourers.
Sources in the foundation said they intend to distribute more such jackets in the coming months.
The Ropiang Foundation, is a non-profit public charitable trust constituted under the Indian Trust Act, with plans to undertake various educational, healthcare, environmental, art and cultural, and rural development initiatives.
To its credit, it organized a highly successful Literary-cum-Civil Service Workshop with the CCpur District Administration on January 3, 2018; and signed an MOU with ICICI Foundation, so that 15 tribal youths from Churachandpur district can undertake completely free electric and motor repair skills training at ICICI Academy of Skills in Jaipur beginning next week.
