Special investigation team for rape cases a must: Romen

A special investigation team to inquire into the cases of rape incidents needs to be established in the state, said Romen Ahanthem, retired Additional DGP at a consultative meet held at Hotel Classic today.
Speaking at the consultative meeting organized by the Women Action for Development, on the theme "Crime Against Women with Special Focus on Rape and its Remedies", Romen Ahanthem said that in any rape case incident the police should be informed promptly and legal actions should be taken up to punish the culprits.
He further went on to say that the concern NGOs should give awareness to the public on what should be done in case of crime committed against women and children.
Apart from the establishment of Special Investigation Team to enquire into rape cases, it is also necessary to improve the Forensic laboratories.
Many of the commercial sex workers in the state seldom come in profession on their own volition.
They have stepped into the profession out of compulsion and there is also the need to provide rehabilitation facilities to them, he said.
Speaking as the resource person on the occasion, Dr Supriya of Forensic Department, RIMS said that a rape victim should report to the police immediately, so as to avoid losing evidences.
The cloths worn by the victim should not be changed and she should avoid taking bath.
All the marks on the cloths and body should be thoroughly medically examined.
