Different CSOs stage hunger-strike against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 amidst PM visit at Silchar

Different CSOs including Assam Indigenous People Protection Committee (AIPPC), Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), Manipuri Youths Front Assam (MYFA), AMMYF, Muslim Development Council (MDC), AIPPC tea garden cell, ISYFA, Namsudra Parishad among others staged hunger-strike and sit-in protest at VIP Road, Modhurapol Point, Silchar against the centre's move to implement Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 amid the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Silchar today.
Speaking at the occasion, president AIPPC Monmahan Barman said that the protest demonstration was staged to as a way to raise their voice against the move of the Central Govt to pass the said bill during his visit at Silchar and added that the said bill, if passed, will be a threat to the existence of indigenous people of Assam.
He further said that whether the present Govt need thw support of indigenous people of Assam or the vote of Bangladeshi.
President MYFA, Seram Herajit Singh said that the assurance to safeguard the Clause 6 of the Assam Accord given by PM Modi is a 'poll time' hollow promise to draw vote and added that the hunger-strike protest was staged today to oppose the implementation of said bill and to safeguard the interest of indigenous people in north east.
He also threatened of intensifying protest if the bill is not sraped.
The sit-in protest was attended by president AIPPC, Monmahan Barman; president MYFA, Seram Herajit Singh; president AMMYF, Ahamed Hussain Choudhary; general secretary KMSS, Rukon Uddin Brolaskar, vice-president Yaipha Lup, Okram Lakhikanta, Ainul Hoque Choudhary AASU Cachar Dist Committee, president.
