N Kayisii inaugurates 6th Sports Meet at Makuilongdi-I village

Tribal and Hills Areas Development and Fisheries Minister N Kayisii inaugurated the 6th Sports Meet at Makuilongdi-I (Zeme) village, Senapati District yesterday.
Deputy Chairman, Education ADC Senapati, Dingau Hau attended the event as the guest of honour while social leaders, invitees, village leaders, youth and students also participated in large numbers.
The sports meet under the theme "Together towards tomorrow" will conclude on January 7 with Tamenglong DC Armstrong Pame as the chief guest.
According to the villagers, Makuilongdi was re-established as a Zeliangrong origin village in the year 1980 .
Earlier, the village was under Mao Maram sub-division , but bifurcated to a newly approved Senapati DHQ sub-division.
It is situated about 22 km away from Senapati district headquarters and is inhabited by four different communities namely Zeme, Liangmai, Rongmei and Inpui.
Speaking at the ceremony as the first Minister to visit the village, N Kayisii noted that a new socio-cultural and economical outlook of the villagers has resulted in bringing some progress and development in the village, compared to a few years back.
Lauding the villagers for being self reliant and hard-working and at the same time living in harmony, he said that one should not be too dependent on others, especially in today's competitive world.
Encouraging sports as a part of the daily activities, the Minister urged the youths to be well disciplined, punctual and to demonstrate proper sportsmanship.
The Minister gifted blankets to four different village elders while sports materials were also presented to the participating team and players.
Dy Chairman ADC, Dingau Hau said that sports is one such activity among others which can bring different communities together, and also emphasised on the importance of education.
