Extra effort necessary to achieve required fish target: Premjit

A month long distance certificate course on Scientific Fish Farming, organised by Directorate of Extension Education, Central Agricultural University Imphal concluded today at the university in Lamphelpat.
A total of 58 people took part in the course.
Top three participants, who did well during the 30 days course were felicitated as well.
Speaking as the chief guest of the function, VC, CAU M Premjjit said that it will take a production of 20,000 MT fishes for farmers of the State to achieve the required/necessary target (52,000 MT) .
Saying that the farmers are producing only 32,000 MT of fishes in Manipur, the VC stressed on the need to invest more effort to reach the required number of fish.
Maintaining that the people consume a great amount of fish, Premjit added that either the farmers increase the production or the people consume less fish.
An individual living in India consumes around 9 kg of fish in a year while people in Tripura, Assam, Manipur eats around 24 kg of fish.
He further stated that maize can be used as fish feed apart from human consumption while adding that fish feeds, if brought from the State itself, will help the farmers in decreasing their expenses.
The VC urged all the farmers to be creative, discuss new and improved techniques with experts and work hard so that the people can become self-reliant.
Director, Extension Education, CAU Imphal Professor Ratan Kumar Saha and Deputy Director of Extension, CAU Imphal Dr Dipak Nath attended the function as president and guest of honour respectively.
