Intensified Diarrhea Control Fortnight programme starts

Imphal, July 28 2014 : JNIMS Hospital today hosted the opening ceremony of the Intensified Diarrhea Control Fortnight programme.

The programme was launched with an aim to control diarrhea in the State.

Starting today, the programme will continue till August 8 .

The opening event was presided by the Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing and Health and Family Welfare Principle Secretary Dr Suhel Akhtar as guest of honour and president of the function respectively.

The Intensified Diarrhea Control Fortnight programme, in its first phase, will distribute a target of 2.70 packets of ORS to childrens below the age of five.

The team also plans to hold an awareness campaign where they would demonstrate ways to prevent and cure diarrhea.

In its second phase, the team hopes to provide treatment to every children suffering from malnutrition.

A similar programme, organised by the District Health Mission Society (IW), was also held at CHC Wangoi today presided by Dr Kh Satyabak, MO in-charge CHC Wangoi; Dr Bimola Kumari, CMO Imphal and S Janeswar Singh, DI of schools, ZEO Wangoi as president, chief guest and guest-of-honour respectively.

L Lolindro Singh, Chairperson Bishenpur Municipal Council launched the Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight from at Bishenpur under National Health Mission.

The function was presided by Dr Ng Hemanta-kumar, Chief Medical Officer Bishenpur.

L Suranjoy Secretary People Resource Development Association Bishenpur attended the function as guest of honour.

The main theme was to achieve zero death due to childhood diarrhea.

Main activities will be conducted during the Intensified Diarhoea Control Fortnight.

During first week from July 28 to August 2, home visit by ASHA workers and distribution of ORS (Oral rehydration solution) to each household of under 5 years old children will be conducted.

Demonstration on preparation of ORS and Diarhoea management, establishment of ORS � Zinc corners at district hospital, CHC and PHC, hand washing at Schools for primary and middle school will also be conducted.

During second week � main focus will be given on infant and young child feeding, growth monitoring by ASHA and Anganwadi worker, counselling on early initiation of breast-feeding, detection of undernourished children, setting up of IYCF ( infant and young child feeding) and counselling sites, referral and medical management of under nourished children at health facilities of the district etc.

Intensified Diarrhoea Control fortnight observation with the aim of Zero Child Death due to Childhood Diarrhoea was launched at Chandel Mini Secretariat multipurpose hall today.

Organized by the District Health Society Chandel, CNPO President Ws Kanral Anal, CMO/Mission Director Birchandra Singh and Vice President NPF Ps Ngamnung attended the launching programme as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

In connection with the occasion, Primary and Middle School students from various educational institutions took out a rally from Maha Union Government Higher Secondary School to the Chandel DC complex.

Delivering his keynote address, Convener of the District Health Society Chandel, Dr Romi Ngoru said that National Health Mission gives main thrust to women and child health.

Highlighting the main objectives of the fortnight observation, Dr Romi Ngoru said that diarrhoea control, attention to under nourished children below 5 years, house visits by ASHAs for prophylactic distribution of ORS-Zinc, establishment of ORS-Zinc corners, ensuring prescription or ORS with Zinc dispersible tablets and referral and medical management by all health providers including medical officers would be taken up during the fortnight.

The launching programme was also attended by Addl CEO ADC/CDL Th Kothar, ICDS officials, medical officers, staff and officials of the medical and NRHM, representatives from the civil bodies including CNPO, NGOs and school teachers.
