Naga Folk songs recorded

The Natural & Cultural Heritage Conservation Initiative (NCHCI), a Delhi-based NGO organised a two-day documentation of Naga Folk Music at Ringui (Tongou) village in Ukhrul district on 22nd and 24th April.
Altogether 50 songs from Zingtun (West) area were recorded at the event and the various types of songs included Rai Laa (war song), Thisham Laa (song to departed soul), Yangyir Laa (spring song), Chapchat Laa (song of lamentation) etc, said a release issued by the director of NCHCI Tuisem Ngakang.
The history of Nagas is deeply attached with their songs and legends.
Naga folk song was one of the medium through which education was imparted to young generation and it also taught the young people about the norms and conduct of heroes, method of building houses and technique of agricultural activities, the release informed.
As its first adventure, the NCHCI is all set to compile all the recorded songs into audio-visual and printed form, it said.
