Conclave bats for Naga integration

Senapati, November 23 2018: In the just concluded "Conclave on Naga Journey" at Kaomei village in Senapati district, Naga student organizations from Myanmar, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and elsewhere expressed hope that one day the Nagas, wherever they are, will come to live under one administrative unit.

The three-day event was organised by the All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM).

Addressing a mammoth gathering, Guwang Hakung, president of Arunachal Pradesh Naga Students' Federation (ANSF) narrated on the hardship faced by the Nagas in that State.

Nevertheless, the ANSF president expressed hope that the Nagas will overcome all obstacles someday.

He then harped on the need for more extensive co-operation among the Nagas.

Delegates from Myanmar based Eastern Naga Students' Association (ENSA) also participated in the conclave.

Speaking at the occasion, Reego Shonshei, president of ENSA, expressed on how the Nagas in Myanmar have been longing to live under one administrative umbrella.

He also narrated the plights of the Naga people in Myanmar.

According to him, the authorities of Myanmar have been giving immense hardships to the Naga people in Myanmar.

Reego Shonshei also explained various reasons as to why the Nagas have been treated not well in that country.

Also addressing the people, Kanti, president of the Rengma Naga Students Union (RNSU), Karbi Anglong, Assam, dwelt on the history of Rengma people in Assam.

He also told the gathering on the present state of affairs of the Rengma Nagas in Assam.

On the occasion, Vareiyo Shatsang, president of All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) presented a paper on "Position of the tribals in Manipur" .

L Adam, former president of the United Naga Council (UNC) presented a paper entitled, "Understanding our neighbours" while Daniel Ramsan, Senior Advocate presented a paper on "Impacts and challenges of the Manipur People Bill, 2018" .

On the concluding session, various Naga leaders including KS Paul Leo, former president ofUNC, G Vashum, former speaker of Naga Students' Federation (NSF), Ashinpou Gangmei, chairman of Committee for Alternative Arrangement (CFAA-UNC), Grace Shatsang, former president of Naga Women Union (NWU), Dr Gina Shangkham, first president of NWU and former convenor of Naga People's Movement for Humn Rights-South (NPMHR-S) and Artax A Shimray, former president of ANS AM shared their views.

Aheli Moitra of The Morung Express also spoke on the occasion.

The panelists of the three-day conclave were Somipam Lungleng, former president of ANS AM, Paulhring Langhu, former president of ANSAM, Witoubou Newmai, Editor of NNN, Zingya Luithui, former convenor of NPMHR-S, RT Rebirthson, advocate, Sira Kharay, advocate, Thomas Thaimei, advocate afld Adani Kumo Mao, advocate.

Under the banner of "Land, population, education and economy of districts" ANSAM unit presidents including L Manahring of NSUC, AS Rangam of TKS, Kaikho Hopeson Mao of SDSA and Alunbou Newmai of ZSUM shared then-views.

Alamle Heurang, winner of Tribal Euphony & Co and other artists enthralled the crowd with their songs.
