Imphal, March 23 2018:
Stating that it respects the ruling of the Delhi High Court, directing the Election Commission of India to hear the complaints against 20 AAP MLAs for holding office of profit, the Congress has however raised some questions regarding the administration of BJP led Government in Manipur.
A joint press release issued by AICC spokesperson, Sushmita Dev, former Deputy CM of Manipur Gaikhangam, Goa MLA, Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco and MP (Arunachal Pradesh) Takam Sanjoy, claimed that just like AAP, BJP is openly disregarding every rule in Manipur.
Accusing the BJP of resorting to blatant double faced politics in Manipur, it informed that 12 MLAs, 8 from BJP, 3 from NPF and 1 independent MLA, were appointed as Parliamentary Secretaries after the last State Assembly election.
As per the Supreme Court order of July 26, 2017, such appointment of Parliamentary Secretaries is without legislative competence and any individual holding such position must be disqualified, it explained and added that despite the order, all 12 MLAs are still continuing normally in the State, in complete violation of the law.
The Congress alleged that the BJP Manipur State Govt is functioning in complete violation of the Constitutional laws and claimed that BJP illegally allotted offices of profit to 12 MLAs and the party also did not disqualify the MLAs who defected to the party by violating the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution.
It explained that a Congress MLA, Th Shyamkumar, defected to BJP just after the announcement of the Manipur State Assembly election results and was appointed as a Minister in the State Cabinet by the BJP.
Pointing out that the said MLA has not even resigned and is still continuing as a Minister till date, it claimed that the Manipur Assembly Speaker did not even accept a complaint by the Congress to disqualify the said MLA on the basis of Anti-Defection Law.
Recalling how former Congress president Sonia Gandhi resigned when the office of profit controversy broke out, it accused the BJP and AAP of not upholding Constitutional laws.
Demanding the 12 BJP MLAs of Manipur as well as the 20 AAP MLAs of Delhi to resign immediately, the Congress mentioned that BJP has consistently and repeatedly disregarded the Constitutional provisions in forming Government in Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Manipur and Meghalaya.
It further accused BJP of committing daylight robbery of majority mandate in Goa, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh.
