Imphal, September 22 2021:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has urged the authorities concerned to release the members of DESAM arrested in connection with the issue of Naorem Birahari College.
Speaking to media persons during a press conference today, Leishangthem Lamyanba, Secretary General of DESAM also demanded the Government to conduct an enquiry on the teacher responsible for the disturbed environment at Naorem Birahari College and to award befitting punishments to the perpetrator.
Stating that DESAM has been striving to bring an amicable solution to the ongoing row at the above said college which have hampered the academic atmosphere of the college considerably, he said that a meeting was held yesterday with an aim to resolve the long pending issue.
Unfortunately the meeting ended on a sour note where a teacher of the college started verbally abusing the members of DESAM which led to a scuffle, he added.
Further he termed it baseless that members of DESAM assaulted the said teacher but they were just trying to defend themselves.
L Lamyanba also alleged that the said teacher have joined the college defying the norms of recruitment and the same is validated by his marksheets and certificates therefore the Directorate of University and Higher Education and Department of Higher & Technical Education Manipur should not recognised him as a faculty of the college since he does not have the legitimate rights to be a college teacher.
Hence the Government should form a committee to probe in to the matter and present a report to the public and the authorities concerned should ensure that the teacher concerned should not be appointed as the Principal-in-charge of the college, he added.
He also strongly denounced the uncultured activities of the teacher and his family members.
Stating that DESAM has detailed reports about the ongoing row at the Naorem Birahari College, he maintained that filing an FIR against DESAM will not hinder the activities of the student body to bring forth the truth and bring a change.
