Imphal, December 21 2014:
After the Power Department was bifurcated into two separate companies, the power distribution company has been installing pre-paid meter system at a hectic pace so as to ensure 24 hours power supply in a day at Imphal from January 1 .
The power distribution company has installed one lakh pre-paid meter systems at all municipal areas and district headquarters of the State.
The company has already set a target of 24 hours power supply in Imphal starting from next month, informed an official source.
On the other hand, construction work of the 400 KV power transmission line from Jiribam to Imphal which is being executed by Power Grid Corporation of India is expected to be complete by next month.
It is reported that the Power Grid Corporation of India has roped in additional manpower so as to meet the deadline.
Even if the construction work of the transmission line is not completed by the month of January, it would be completed for sure by February, conveyed the source.
Manipur would also get extra 21 MW of power from a Gas Thermal Power Plant of Tripura.
As such, the chronic problem of power shortage is likely to be ameliorated to some extent very soon even though it is dry season, added the source.
